"Infamous" fingerprint reader on the signature type cover

Hi guys, I’m new to the forum. I don’t know if this topic has already been discussed, but I couldn’t find any discussion about it, so I thought to ask.
I’ve been using a Surface Pro 3 since August, 2016 with the Surface Pro 4 signature type cover, the one with the fingerpint reader. It’s always bugged me how it casually stops working sometimes. I use it to unlock the PC, but let’s say 3 times out of 10, it just doesn’t respond. No error message, no retry message, nothing, as if my finger wasn’t there at all. I can see the fingerprint among the options to unlock, but nothing.
Searching on various forums, I noticed that is a pretty common problem, and I already tried every suggested workaround (detaching, reinstalling drivers, integrity checks) but so far, no solution.
Maybe someone here knows a possible solution?
